Both Emer and Graham are highly acclaimed musicians with deep knowledge and years of experience as extremely effective teachers. They have developed a teaching methodology that has proven to accelerate the understanding of music and theory. Following in a long family line of music teachers, they are both very dedicated to keeping the tradition of inspiring young musicians alive and well in London.

Emer Calthorpe is one of London’s most experienced violinists and teachers. Since returning to London from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra she has freelanced extensively with the major London orchestras, leading several chamber orchestras and working also in the film studios.

Continuing a family tradition that extends over 200 years, she started her teaching career with the exceptional appointment at the age of 18 as a Professor at the Irish College of Music / University College, Dublin. She teaches pupils both local and from the leading public schools, including Eton, Harrow and Radley, and was chosen as one of the founding violin tutors at London’s Centre For Young Musicians. Her pupils include several players now prominent in the London profession.

In recent years Emer has refined a ‘fast track’ programme to help gifted children attain their essential Grades in Music Theory, boosting their important school exam results. She is very pleased to join the distinguished staff at the Youth Music Centre, and hopes that her young students will benefit her varied experience and enthusiasm.

Graham Salter is one of Britain's most experienced and sought-after players. He has been Principal Oboe with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and played Cor Anglais with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and many other major orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera.

Graham has broadcast frequently for the BBC and his Oboe Quartet has commissioned works by Richard Rodney Bennett.

As a tutor, my approach is similar to the way I have taught in different educational institutions. Having established what the student already knows I approach teaching with the emphasis on active learning and encouraging confidence in the student’s ability to learn and apply skills.  I invite all my students to come to concerts and events that will enhance their studying and learning and as appropriate to perform in termly
