I have been teaching the flute for over 30 years, both privately and for various local music services. I have a BA and MA Music from Oxford University. I teach children and adults of all levels from beginner to Grade 8 and I am equally happy to teach students who wish to take their grade exams or those who just wish to play for fun. My interest in music covers a whole spectrum from classical to folk and jazz, and all of these elements inform my teaching.
A professional performer, I play with the highly acclaimed and award-winning flute-based Anglo-Irish folk band, Flook, and have played with numerous other artists including The Waterboys, The Barely Works, Phil Cunningham, Oysterband, Sally Barker.

I have extensive teaching experience, having worked as an Early Years specialist and strings tutor for the Tower Hamlets Music Service for a number of years, as well as having many private pupils from as young as 5 through to adults. I am involved in a variety of Community Arts projects and am currently Community Ambassador for the London Symphony Orchestra. I have a varied and exciting freelance career as a cellist, performing regularly with classical ensembles, jazz groups and pop artists. She is now working in north west London and Surrey. Her life's work has been to restore the recorder to its rightful place as a beautiful instrument to be taken seriously, and to this end she has recently trained to become the UK's first Suzuki recorder teacher and teacher trainer. Throughout his career as a flautist, Ian has always taught, both in schools and privately. He has taught flute for Hertfordshire Music Service and coached young woodwind players in National Childrens Wind Sinfonia. Ian currently teaches flute at St Augustine's Priory as well as conducting their Junior and Senior Orchestras and also South Hampstead High School, conducting the Concert Band and Symphonic Windband. He also coaches and runs various Flute Ensembles. Ian has taught on a number of summer music courses and adjudicates school music competitions. I am an enthusiastic and invested teacher, teaching in an adaptable and accessible way. My aim to inspire students to love playing the flute.
I have been teaching for past 7 years and particularly enjoy working with children. I teach from absolutely beginners to advanced players, following the ABRSM syllabus, Trinity syllabus, or just for fun! I am experienced working with children of various learning difficulties, including working in school environments with small groups and specifically one-to-one with those with visual and hearing impairment.
Having completed my undergraduate degree in Music (BMus Hons) at City University London with first class honours, I then pursued a Masters Degree (MA Perf) specialising in flute at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
I am currently based in North West London as a freelance flautist and private teacher for flute (Beginners through to beyond Grade 8/Diploma), piano (Beginners to grade 3), and music theory (Beginners/Grade 1 through to Grade 8/University level). I am happy to travel to students’ homes. I am DBS (Enhanced) Checked.
