Phillip has been playing drums and percussion for 15 years in total and started professionally in 1989. He took drum lessons at school and sixth form college and in 1996 met a man named Clifford Jarvis who had previously played drums with some of the biggest names in Jazz history (John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Sun Ra and many more). He became a friend/inspiration and teacher shaping the way Phil also runs workshops teaching studio recording techniques.

As a session musician he has recorded and performed with: Terry Callier, The East London Gospel Choir, Craig David, J-Life, Ronnie Laws, Julie Dexter, The Esscofery Sisters and many more obscure artists. Phillip is a promoter of live music and is leader of his own group THE LIFEFORCE BAND.

I am based in South Oxhey near Carpenders Park (zone 7) station which is one train from Euston. I also go out so students within London Zones at no extra charge.

I teach a multitude of styles including funk, rock, pop and r&b. Despite this, my specialty is beginners who are looking to pick up their sticks for the first or those with basic knowledge of the instrument looking to expand.

I am currently teaching intermediate students. I charge £25 per hour and £15 for half hour sessions with the first hour being £15. I have 8 years experience as a drummer and am currently a part of 4 projects, some of whom have played well known venues such as the O2 Academy Islington and The Water Rats to festivals in places like Essex.

Fred has over 20 years playing experience and 14 years teaching. As the son of a piano teacher, Fred grew up with a passion for music and takes a great joy in sharing his knowledge.

Having graduated from Drumtech in 2002, Fred found his home playing live for Post War Years, with whom he released two albums, and toured supporting many well known artists including Mumford and Sons, White Lies, The Naked and Famous, and Late of the Pier. Since then he has worked extensively as a session player, a highlight of which was a support tour with Sir Elton John.

Having played venues including the O2 Academy, Brixton Academy and Manchester MEN arena, Fred’s teaching focuses on the application of techniques in live performance. In his lessons he looks to prepare budding drummers for a career in music as well as equip them with a good knowledge of the history of their chosen instrument.

Fred’s playing covers all styles and this is reflected in the variety and diversity of his lessons
