First it was Islington Music. Then Ray Man. The percussion shop, Footes closed. Now Les Aldrich. In the last five years we've seen some changes. It's been a tough time for all retailers but music shops seem to be particularly vulnerable.
This month the beloved Muswell Hill music shop, Les Aldrich, permanently closed its doors. The shop, which opened in 1945, has kept North London families in music for years. It was taken over by Ian Rosenblatt in 2013 and grateful musicians were glad to see it kept standing.
Les Aldrich and Dots have shared customers, staff, instruments and sheet music, and it feels like losing a sibling. Their website hints that they will be opening in a new location and we look forward learning more about their next chapter.
Goodbye Les Aldrich, we will miss you. Thanks for the music stuff.
